Electronic Information Resources
BC AV employees have access to a number of specialist databases. Some electronic resources are only available from library computers, but most can be fully used from the comfort of your home or on the go. Available EIRs can be divided into three groups depending on which institution subscribes to them. This affects how and where you can log in.
Biology Centre
All BC AV resources can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. However, to log in, you must have institutional login details (same as for EIS – VERSO).
Library of the CAS
Remote access to electronic information resources (EIR) via Shibboleth connection is allowed only to registered users of the Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
Registration for remote access to the EIR can be done without physically visiting the library via an online form. BC AV employees have free registration. All you need is a Bank Identity and an e-mail address with the cas.cz domain. If you do not have a bank identity or your bank does not provide it, you can use correspondence registration. Unfortunately, this is a bit more lengthy and requires a visit to the post office, but it is still worth it. For correspondence registration, click on the page: https://lib.cas.cz/sluzby/registrace/registrace-e-zdroje/ +How to register by correspondence.
A list of resources provided by the KNAV can be found at https://lib.cas.cz/eiz/. Click on the desired database. For those that you can connect to after registering via Shibboleth, you will find a blue button "Remote access Shibboleth"at the bottom right. Then fill in the user details you received when registering (see above). These are not the same as the details you have for the Biology Centre!
University of South Bohemia
USB subscribes to a number of professional online resources. The availability is indicated for each resource. Freely available resources are marked FREE.
Access rights for licensed resources are marked with the abbreviation of the faculty or part of USB, in whose buildings the databases can be used on stationary computers without login details.
Almost all databases are available on stationary computers in the Academic Library of USB. BC AV employees have the opportunity to register for FREE at the AK information desk and fully use all services, including most EIRs.
BC AV employees who also work part-time at USB can access the EIR with marked AK - USB availability remotely using the VPN concentrator (installation instructions).
Databases marked with the Shibboleth logo (dragon) are also accessible remotely without VPN using STAG login details.
A list of all EIRs including explanations for connection can be found at:
