Useful tools and links
The fields of Open Science and Research Data Management are more complex than they may seem at first glance. Below, you’ll find a wide range of tools designed to help you—whether you’re creating a data management plan, checking a journal’s publication policies for your article, searching for a subject-specific data repository, or sharing your research data.
Data Management Plans
A tool from the Czech Academy of Sciences for creating Data Management Plans (DMPs). The tool guides users interactively through the DMP creation process, assesses the degree to which FAIR principles are met, and provides links to methodologies and literature. It also allows DMPs to be shared with the entire research team in real time. It also allows users to select templates from Horizon, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT), the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR), the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA ČR), and others.
The most widely used European platform for creating DMPs. It includes templates from major finance providers and allows collaboration and sharing of plans.
A toolkit for managing research data in the life sciences.
Open Access – tools and search engines
A database of Open Access policies from publishers, journals, and grant providers. Helps authors find out how they can publish in Open Access, what versions of articles they can share, and where. For example, it helps to check whether it is possible to publish a preprint in a repository before submitting an article to a journal.
An open access publishing platform for publishing research funded by the European Commission in all fields. The platform makes it easier for European Commission grant recipients to comply with open access conditions and offers researchers a publishing space where they can quickly share their results and insights for FREE. The platform is indexed in Scopus. It can therefore replace publishing in journals.
DOAJ – Directory of Open Access Journals
A global index of high-quality peer-reviewed open access journals. Allows searching for open access journals by subject and region.
Ensures that journals listed adhere to open publishing and peer-review standards, helping to filter out predatory journals.
Licenses and copyrigh
The official website of the organization that manages open CC licenses. It offers an overview of all licenses and examples of their use.
Creative Commons License Chooser
Interactive tool for selecting the appropriate license (CC-BY, CC BY-SA, CC0, etc.) for publications, data, and multimedia.
Citation database
A multidisciplinary citation database with a rigorous selection of journals. It enables advanced citation analysis, tracking of impact factors and Journal Citation Reports metrics, searching for publications across all scientific fields, verifying Article Influence Scores, analyzing authors’ publication activity, and much more.
Extensive bibliographic and citation database with broad field coverage. Offers bibliometric analyses via SciVal, profiling of authors, institutions, and tracking of trends in science.
Citation managing tools
Czech citation manager supporting the ČSN ISO 690 standard and other styles. Allows automatic citation generation, export to MS Word, record organization, and work with browser add-ons.
Reference manager with a robust system for PDF management, annotations, literature organization, and integration with MS Word via Mendeley Cite.
Open-source citation and research manager. Stores literature, notes, automatically generates citations, supports synchronization and collaboration in teams.
Searching repositories, ontologies and metadata standards
An international curated platform listing standards, databases, repositories and data policies. It allows searching for ontologies, dictionaries, formats, reporting standards and repositories. It serves as a central source for selecting appropriate data standards.
A global registry of research data repositories with over 3,300 entries. Allows you to filter repositories by subject, data type, licenses, access conditions, and other criteria. Helps researchers select appropriate FAIR-compliant repositories.
OpenDOAR – Directory of Open Access Repositories
This tool helps to find a suitable repository for publications or data (institutional and sectoral). It is closely related to OpenPolicyFinder.
Repositories
Institutional repository of the Czech Academy of Sciences (BC also) for bibliography, full texts, preprints and research data. It automatically generates a DOI/Handle.
An open, multidisciplinary repository for storing data, software, and multimedia. Automatically generates DOIs.
A cloud storage and repository for scientific data that allows researchers to store, share, and publish the results of their work, such as datasets, images, videos, and presentations. It automatically generates DOIs.
CESNET tools and services for data storage and sharing
(these are not repositories in the sense of the requirements of grant agencies)
The service provides space for storing and sharing large scientific data within the national e-infrastructure.
- Designed for very large data volumes, including data from MetaCentrum or IT4I calculations, which are too large for conventional repositories.
- The repositories have more than 120 PB of physical capacity, high redundancy and geographical distribution (Brno, Dolní Břežany, Jihlava, Ostrava, Pilsen).
- ISO/IEC 27001 certification.
- Supports S3 and RBD interfaces (Ceph).
- Login for BC employees with the same details as for Verso.
Cloud storage allows you to automatically synchronize data between different computers and mobile devices of the user. Data is also accessible via a web interface. Data can also be easily shared with colleagues.
- Cloud storage with 100 GB of space per user (can be increased).
- For Windows, Linux, OS X, iOS, Android operating systems.
- Automatic synchronization of data between multiple devices (to mobile devices as needed).
- Access via a web interface.
- Adjustable sharing with a group of people or based on a link.
- Document/data versioning within a single account.
- Data storage within the CESNET e-infrastructure in the Czech Republic.
- Data repositories are certified according to the standard for the information security management system.
A simple and secure way to transfer files between users, where at least one of them must be verified through the eduID.cz federation (for BC employees, access data as for Verso).
- FileSender works as a file storage - by uploading the file and specifying who the download link should be sent to. The other party will receive an email with the link.
- The file is stored in the system for a maximum of a month, after which it is automatically deleted.
- File size up to 1.9 TB.
- We recommend using FileSender for sending research data instead of public services such as Uschovna, etc.
Libraries
Library of the Czech Academy of Science (KNAV)
The main library of the Czech Academy of Sciences providing:
- Access to professional databases, e-journals and e-books;
- Digitized collections (Digital Library of the CAS);
- Services in the field of Open Science, ASEP, consultations and training.
- Participates in the operation of the ASEP repository and provides support for FAIR data;
- FREE online registration for BC employees.
Library of the University of South Bohemia
University library serving students of the University of Prague, employees of the BC and the public:
- A wide collection of scientific literature.
- Access to e-resources, databases, e-books.
- Offers reading rooms, copying, printing, space reservations.
- FREE registration for BC employees.
